Why You Should Regularly Clean Your Vape Tank
Having a clean tank is the easiest way to ensure that you’re getting the optimal performance out of your tank.
As you use your tank, over time residue can accumulate.
This can affect the performance and the flavor that you’re getting.
Switching out your coil is an important step too!
An old coil will have lower flavor and vapor production.
Including potential leaking issues because the cotton can’t retain the juice as well as it used to.
A good indicator that your coil is used up is when you get a burnt taste when you vape or can visibly see that the cotton has brown or black burn marks on it.
Let’s Start with the Basic Parts
Most of the current tanks on the market will come apart into five separate parts:
1.) The drip tip
2.) The top
3.) The base
4.) The coil
5.) The glass.
There is also an assortment of O-ring seals throughout the tank, but we’ll get to that later.
Disassembling The Tank
To take your tank apart, start by gripping both the top and the base of the tank.
Turn counter-clockwise until the parts separate from each other.
Note that some tanks, Vaporesso especially, are reverse threaded and you'll need to turn clockwise to separate the parts.
Make sure you’re standing over a sink to catch any juice that may spill out of the tank!
Once you have those parts separated, you can begin to flush the two pieces under a faucet to remove any excess juice remaining in the tank.
This will help you get a better grip on the remaining parts as you go along.
You should now be able to pull the glass off, which will be pressure fitted by an O-ring.
After that, you can unscrew the coil from the base or top cap, depending on which one it remained attached to during the first separation of parts.
The drip tip can now be pulled away from the top piece.
Like the glass, the tip is also most likely attached by a pressure fit from an O-ring.
You should now have the five main components of the tank separated and are ready for cleaning!
The Cleaning Process
First, take your old coil and chuck it in the trash.
You won’t be needing it anymore.
Take the remaining four parts of the tank and proceed to flush them all with hot water.
Make sure to get any remaining juice off of the parts.
Inspect all of the parts, and if there is any stains or residue still clinging on, take an old toothbrush or rag and give it a little extra encouragement.
After you’re done cleaning everything, take a dry rag or paper towel and dry all of the parts off.
Take this time to also inspect all of your O-rings and seals to see if you need to replace any of them with the extras that came in the box with your tank.
You’re looking for any small tears or permanent stretching that may have occurred that could cause leaking issues.
If there are any issues, replace them now!
Deep Cleaning Options
Are you still seeing build up and gunk on your tank parts?
Although most of the time the previous steps will suffice in cleaning your tank, sometimes a little bit of chemical help is needed.
I recommend the use of either, baking soda, grain alcohol, vinegar, dishwashing soap, or vodka if you need a little extra help.
NEVER use powerful cleaning agents on your tank.
You don’t want to be inhaling any of those when you put everything back together.
If you want to get extra fancy with you tank cleaning, you can also enlist the help of an ultrasonic cleaner.
Although most of the time this isn’t necessary, it doesn’t hurt if you have one on hand.
Using an ultrasonic cleaner isn’t a complicated process.
Simply fill it with water and run it until all your vape parts are clean.
Give the parts an extra rinse after it’s done and let all the parts dry.
Reassembling The Vape Tank
Grab your new coil and screw it into the base hand-tight.
Be sure not to apply too much pressure, as this could cause the O-ring on the coil to get clamped and potentially cause leaking issues.
Once the coil is firmly attached to the base, begin to “prime” your coil.
Priming your coil is when you wet all visible cotton with your juice; taking it from a dry white to a saturated color of your juice.
This will help the coil accept juice faster initially, and lead to less waiting time before you can take your first hit.
After the coil is fully saturated, take the glass and attach it to the tank top.
Then take the attached pieces and screw them into the coil and base hand tight.
Remember what I said about over-tightening.
Reattach your drip tip, and then all you have to do is fill your tank!
Let the tank sit for at least 5-10 minutes for the coil to fully saturate, screw it back in to your mod, and you’re all done!
Enjoy your freshly cleaned tank and its optimal performance.
